Chapter 17

WITH MAGIC PULLING THE cart behind us, Bianca and I walked steadily to her house. I wanted to run but Bianca insisted the cart wouldn’t move that fast. We’d have to push it ourselves and that would dismiss the point of running.

So here we were walking... so fucking slow that a snail could outrun us. I glanced back at William, who hadn’t woken up since he passed out in the cart. Worry ate at my stomach and I chewed on the inside of my cheek.

“Stop fretting.”

I shot her a look. “You would be too if it was your prince — I mean customer — in the cart. He could die and it would be all my fault.”

“Oh, honey.” Bianca wrapped an arm around my shoulders and pulled me into her side. “You really care about him, don’t you?”

“What?” I lifted my head from her shoulder and blinked at her. “No. No. I don’t care about him. I... he’s a jerk. He sleeps with anything that can walk. I mean seriously, how do you think he got into this problem in the first place?”

“I can see that.” Bianca bobbed her head and shot a look over at the prince’s prone form. “You know, sometimes we can’t help who we fall for.”

“What?” I squeaked out. “Who’s falling? I’m... I’m not falling.”

“Oh, sweetie. It’s okay.” she pressed her lips to my forehead. “We’ve all fallen for someone we shouldn’t have. No one is judging you. Besides...” she smiled slyly back at the prince. “I don’t think anyone could blame you. He is one beautiful man.”

“Until he opens his mouth.”

She scoffed. “You don’t need to talk to fuck. If you don’t bang him, I might.”

I wrinkled my nose at her. “Aren’t you allergic to peppermint?”

Giving me a coy smile, she sighed dramatically. “Oh, but what a way to go.”

I snorted. “You say that now but you forget the whole ‘his lover cursed his dick’ thing. Not exactly the makings of a great partner.”

“Yes, there is that,” she paused and then frowned deeply. “How exactly did that happen?”

Wrapping my arms around my middle, I leaned against her once more. “I sold one of those make your own curses to a woman — who, by the way, seemed innocent enough. Turns out she was quite a bit more creative than I gave her credit for.”

“I would say so...” Bianca giggled, “... at least, she didn’t make it rot and fall off. I had a scorned lover once who did that to a man. Not pretty. There was no saving that one.”

I grimaced at the imagery. “I couldn’t imagine hating someone that much. I mean, the prince is a dick but still he’s got his good points. He stood up to Blackthorn for me.”

“He did not,” Bianca gasped, then shot a look at him. “Is that how he got injured?”

I nodded grimly. “Yeah. Blackthorn could smell him on me and thought the worse. He challenged him to a fight if he didn’t relinquish his claim on me.
